Wilmer came to GNEWS the way many people do — not asking for a handout, but looking for someone willing to listen.

He was experiencing homelessness and carrying years of uncertainty and survival. When Wilmer first connected with GNEWS, the most important thing we offered wasn’t food or paperwork.

It was presence.

A place to sit.
A conversation.
A chance to tell his story without judgment.

From there, coordinated support began.

Through GNEWS’ relationship-based approach, Wilmer was connected to transitional housing programs, counseling support, and structured next steps. He stayed engaged. He did the work. And organizations worked together around him.

Today, Wilmer is no longer homeless.

He graduated from a transitional program and signed the lease to his own apartment.

That outcome happened because someone stayed — and because donors made it possible for GNEWS to remain on the corner, listening long enough for change to happen.
